What size chandelier for your living room?

A simple rule: add the length and width of the room in feet, and use the total as the chandelier diameter in inches. A 12 × 16 ft living room adds up to 28, so a chandelier of about 28 in (70 cm) — our Ø60 or Ø80 cm sizes — will look right.

Our branch models come in six round sizes, from Ø40 to Ø120 cm. Other designs are shown in their standard Ø60 or Ø80 cm size; other sizes can be made to order in about 35 days, at extra cost. For a quick answer, try the chandelier size calculator, or read the full chandelier size guide.

Chandeliers for standard and high ceilings

Most living rooms have an 8–9 ft ceiling. Here, choose a moderate diameter and keep the bottom of the chandelier at least 7 ft above the floor where people walk underneath — or hang it a little lower over a coffee table, where nobody passes. Every chandelier comes with a 1.5 m (59 in) chain that you can shorten on site. Our guide explains how high to hang a chandelier in a living room.

Double-height living rooms need a bigger, taller fixture to fill the space. See our high ceiling living room chandelier collection for larger sizes and longer drops.

Warm light, bulbs and LED options

Our chandeliers use standard screw-in bulbs — E14 sockets on 220–240V models, and E12 sockets on the 120V US version. Bulbs are not included, so you can choose LED bulbs; each socket takes up to 85W. For a relaxed living room, warm white bulbs of 2700–3000K work best. A three-color option is also available: warm 3000K, neutral 4500K and cool 6000K. We do not supply a dimmer.

For custom projects we can build in integrated LED instead of bulbs, with either a branded driver or a cost-effective one, quoted for your project.

Styles for every living room

Living room chandeliers set the tone for the whole space, so start from the style of your furniture:

  • Modern: single-tier branch chandeliers and fuller two-tier designs suit contemporary living rooms and open-plan spaces.
  • Classic: our tiered chandeliers bring a traditional look to a formal sitting room or front room.
  • Statement: the 3116 sculptural globe makes a bold centerpiece in a family room.
  • Finishes: gold (anodized on our branch designs, electroplated on our botanical designs), chrome or black.

Living room chandelier FAQ

What size chandelier do I need for my living room?

Add the length and width of the room in feet and use the total as the diameter in inches. A 12 × 16 ft room needs about 28 in, so our Ø60 or Ø80 cm sizes fit well. Send us your room size and we will recommend the right model.

My ceiling is only 8 ft. Can I still hang a chandelier?

Yes. Choose a moderate diameter and keep at least 7 ft of clearance where people walk underneath. Our single-tier branch chandeliers are about 40–50 cm (16–20 in) tall with the crystals, so with an 8 ft ceiling, hang it over a coffee table or seating area rather than a walkway. Every chandelier comes with a 1.5 m (59 in) chain that you can shorten to the right height.

Can I get warm light, and can I dim it?

Bulbs are not included, so you can choose warm white LED bulbs (2700–3000K) of up to 85W per socket. A three-color option — 3000K, 4500K and 6000K — is available. We do not supply a dimmer.

Can you build a chandelier with integrated LED?

Yes, for custom projects. We can fit integrated LED with a branded driver or a cost-effective one. Tell us about your project and we will quote it.

What is the frame made of?

Our branch frames are aluminum with an anodized gold finish, and our botanical designs such as the 7001 are die-cast aluminum with an electroplated gold finish — neither is painted. Crystals are K5 as standard; every model can be upgraded to K9 or Egyptian crystal at extra cost.
