Living Room Crystal Chandeliers
A dining chandelier is sized to a table. A living room chandelier is sized to the room — and it has to stay out of the way of how the room is actually used.
Sizing to the Room, Not the Furniture
The quickest usable check: add the room’s length and width in metres, then multiply by about eight. That gives a sensible fixture diameter in centimetres.
- A 4 × 3.5 m room → roughly 60 cm → our Ø60 cm size
- A 5 × 4.5 m room → roughly 80 cm → our Ø80 cm size
- Anything appreciably larger, or a long open-plan room → an oval format or a custom diameter
It is a starting point, not a rule. A double-height room, a strong existing light source or an unusually long room all shift the answer, which is why we ask for dimensions rather than guessing from a photograph.
Ceiling height and clearance
Unlike a dining room, people walk under a living room fixture. Keep at least 2.1 m of clear floor-to-bottom height in any part of the room that is crossed on foot. Our standard fixtures are supplied with an overall height of about 150 cm including the suspension; on a standard 2.7–3.0 m ceiling that leaves comfortable clearance. Chain or rod length is adjusted to your ceiling and confirmed before production.
Where it sits relative to the seating
Centre the fixture on the seating group rather than on the room, if the two differ. In a living room the chandelier is read at an angle from a sofa, not from directly underneath, so the silhouette matters more than the underside. Branch and organic forms hold up well from that angle because they read as a shape rather than a flat disc.
Formats That Work in a Living Room
All four of our standard sizes are made to order, so the format follows the room rather than the other way round.
Round — Ø60 or Ø80 cm
The default for a square or nearly square room with a single seating group. Reads evenly from every side, which suits a room you walk around rather than sit at.
Oval — 100×50 or 120×60 cm
For long rooms and open-plan spaces where a circle would look undersized at one end. Available across our tree branch range; it follows the axis of the room instead of fighting it.
Other diameters, drops and multi-tier arrangements are quoted as custom builds. Send the room dimensions and we will tell you whether a standard size fits before anything is priced.

Finish, Crystal and Light Colour
A living room is lit for the evening more often than a dining room is, and the fixture is usually on at the same time as lamps and a screen. Two choices carry most of the result:
- Finish — black, chrome, French gold, gold or white. Match the metal already in the room (handles, frames, table legs) rather than the walls.
- Crystal — clear, amber and clear, or smoke and clear. Clear throws the most sparkle; smoke and amber calm it down in a room where the fixture is on for hours at a time.
- Lamp base — E14, G9 or E27 depending on the design, so you can choose the bulb temperature yourself. For living rooms most buyers go warm rather than neutral.
