High Ceiling Chandeliers

High ceiling chandeliers need scale. Our large and long chandeliers — single-tier branch designs up to Ø120 cm (47 in), fuller two-tier designs, a 200 cm tall staircase chandelier and a 120 cm linear — are built to fill double-height living rooms, vaulted rooms and two-story spaces. Larger sizes can be made to order and quoted for your project. Made in our own factory and sold direct, from $30. Use the size chart below to match the chandelier to your ceiling.

What size chandelier for a high ceiling?

Two rules work together. For the width, add the length and width of the room in feet and use the total as the diameter in inches. For the height, allow about 2.5–3 in of chandelier for every foot of ceiling height — so an 18 ft ceiling suits a fixture, including its chain, of roughly 45–54 in (115–135 cm).

Our branch models come in six round sizes up to Ø120 cm, plus oval sizes up to 150 cm long. Need a huge chandelier for a hotel lobby or a grand hall? Larger sizes can be made to order and are quoted for your project. See our chandelier size guide or the size calculator for more examples.

Long chandeliers and chain length

Every chandelier comes with a 1.5 m (59 in) chain as standard. In a tall room you will often want more: longer chains can be made to any length you need, as a custom option. Keep the bottom of the chandelier at least 7 ft above the floor wherever people walk.

A long chandelier also works over a long dining table in a high room — our 7005 linear chandelier (120 × 60 cm) and the oval branch sizes up to 150 cm are made for it; see dining room chandeliers. On a vaulted ceiling, the chain lets the chandelier hang straight; we do not supply a sloped-ceiling adapter, so your electrician fits a suitable mounting.

Installation, weight and shop drawings

Large chandeliers must hang from a fixing that can carry their weight. Every chandelier is weighed before shipping, and the weight is shown on your quotation and packing list, so your electrician can check the ceiling in advance. Our step-by-step chandelier installation guide covers the basics.

For bigger projects, our designers can prepare installation instructions and an installation plan for your space, as a paid service. Before production we can also draw a CAD shop drawing with dimensions and hanging points: we take a $50 deposit for the CAD drawing, the final fee depends on how complex the design is, and drawings are usually ready in 2–5 days. We do not install on site — your local electrician fits the chandelier. See custom crystal chandeliers.

Styles for tall spaces

When choosing chandeliers for high ceilings, think about shape as well as size:

  • Two-tier designs have two layers of branches around a central stem, so they fill vertical space.
  • Staircase chandelier: our F05-5005 is 200 cm tall — made for stairwells and two-story spaces.
  • Single-tier branch designs in the larger sizes give a wide, airy spread.
  • Finishes: a large gold chandelier (anodized on our branch designs, electroplated on the 7005 linear), chrome, or black.

High ceiling chandelier FAQ

What size chandelier do I need for a high ceiling?

For the width, add the room’s length and width in feet and use the total as the diameter in inches. For the height, allow about 2.5–3 in of chandelier for every foot of ceiling — an 18 ft ceiling suits a fixture of roughly 45–54 in including the chain. Send us your room size and ceiling height and we will recommend a model.

Can you make a chandelier larger than Ø120 cm?

Yes. Larger sizes can be made to order and are quoted for your project. For large custom pieces we usually start with a CAD drawing.

Can I get a shop drawing before production?

Yes. We take a $50 deposit for the CAD drawing; the final fee depends on how complex the design is, and drawings are usually ready in 2–5 days. The drawing shows the dimensions and hanging points.

How do I install a large chandelier on a high ceiling?

Your local electrician installs it — we do not install on site. Every chandelier is weighed before shipping so the ceiling fixing can be checked in advance, and our designers can prepare installation instructions and a plan for your space as a paid service.

How long can the chain be?

Every chandelier comes with a 1.5 m (59 in) chain. Longer chains can be made to any length you need, as a custom option.
