Chandelier Size Calculator
Enter your room size and ceiling height — or your dining table — to find the right chandelier diameter, how far it can hang and which of our standard sizes fits. The rules come from our chandelier size guide.
Turn on JavaScript to use the calculator, or use the rules below: add the length and width of the room in feet and use the total as the chandelier diameter in inches.
How the calculator works
- Diameter: add the length and width of the room in feet, and use the total as the chandelier diameter in inches. A 12 × 16 ft room adds up to 28 in (71 cm), so our Ø60 or Ø80 cm sizes fit.
- High ceilings: if the ceiling is higher than 10 ft, go one size up. From 10 ft, allow about 2.5–3 in of chandelier for every foot of ceiling height, including the chain.
- Clearance: where people walk underneath, keep the bottom of the chandelier at least 7 ft above the floor. Our single-tier branch chandeliers are about 40–50 cm (16–20 in) tall, so under an 8 ft ceiling, hang one over a table, a bed or a coffee table.
- Dining tables: choose a chandelier about 12 in (30 cm) narrower than the table and half to two-thirds of its length, and hang the bottom 30–36 in above the tabletop — about 3 in higher for every foot of ceiling above 8 ft.
- Staircases: center the chandelier in the stairwell opening and keep at least 7 ft between its bottom and the highest step underneath.

Chandelier size calculator FAQ
How does the chandelier size calculator work?
It uses simple rules of thumb: the length plus the width of the room in feet gives the chandelier diameter in inches, and the ceiling height tells you how far the chandelier can hang with at least 7 ft clear below. For a dining room, it sizes the chandelier to your table instead.
What if my result falls between two sizes?
Choose the larger size for a tall ceiling or large furniture, and the smaller one for a low ceiling or a lightly furnished room. Or send us your room size, and we will recommend the right model.
Does the calculator work in meters?
Yes. Switch to meters and centimeters at the top of the calculator; the results show both inches and centimeters.
Can you make a size that isn’t in your range?
Yes. Other sizes can be made to order in about 35 days, and larger sizes are quoted for your project.
Is the result exact?
No — it is a starting point based on common design rules, not a fixed standard. The right size also depends on your furniture and the look you want, so feel free to send us photos and measurements.
