Before You Start
Dust and airborne grease dull crystal over time, so a regular wipe keeps it brilliant. A few safety basics first:
- Switch off the power at the wall and let the bulbs cool completely.
- Protect the floor — lay a thick blanket or cushions under the fixture in case a crystal drops.
- Wear cotton or microfiber gloves so you don’t leave fingerprints on clean crystal.
- Don’t twist or pull the arms — support each section as you work.
The No-Take-Down Method (Quick Clean)
This is the best way to clean a crystal chandelier without taking it down — ideal for monthly upkeep:
- Mix a spray of distilled water with a few drops of isopropyl alcohol (or a little dish soap).
- Lightly mist a microfiber cloth — never spray directly onto the fixture or wiring.
- Wipe each crystal and the frame, holding the piece steady with your other gloved hand.
- For detailed cuts, use a soft brush or a second dry cloth to buff off streaks.
Deep Cleaning (Crystals Removed)
Once or twice a year, give it a deep clean:
- Photograph the chandelier first so you know where each crystal goes back.
- Remove crystals in sections and hand-wash in warm water with a drop of mild soap.
- Rinse, then dry each piece with a lint-free cloth before rehanging.
- Wipe the metal frame separately and let everything dry fully before switching the power back on.
What to Avoid
- Don’t use ammonia, bleach or abrasive cleaners — they can etch crystal and strip plated finishes.
- Don’t put crystals in a dishwasher.
- Don’t clean with the power on or bulbs hot.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I clean it?
A light dust monthly; a deeper clean once or twice a year, more in kitchens.
Can I use vinegar?
A very diluted vinegar-water mix works on glass, but for plated frames stick to mild soap to protect the finish.
How do I clean a high or 2-story chandelier?
Use a stable platform or hire a pro; our fixtures ship with an assembly/crystal map to make rehanging easy.
